Little River's Bar Bucce, the laid-back pizzeria and Italian market that opened its doors last year, has been named a semifinalist for Best New Bar in the prestigious 2026 James Beard Awards.
The recognition marks a major milestone for the establishment at 7220 N Miami Ave, which was created by the sibling duo behind the beloved South Beach institution Macchialina, along with partner Jen Chaefsky.
"We're absolutely thrilled and honestly a little overwhelmed," said Jacqueline Pirolo, who curates Bar Bucce's drinks program. "When we opened, we just wanted to create a neighborhood spot where people could enjoy great pizza, wine, and good company. To be recognized by the James Beard Foundation is beyond anything we imagined."
What sets Bar Bucce apart is its thoughtful harmony of wine bar, restaurant, and contemporary Italian delicatessen. The railroad-adjacent location adds to its unique charm—patrons can hear the rumble of passing trains, which shakes wine glasses and matches the convivial energy the spot brings to the table.
Pirolo has created a drinks playground featuring high-value options and rare sake, wine, and liquors. One standout is the "Pitcher O'Cola," which blends cherry cola with La Miraja "La Ribota" Chinato, an aromatized wine from Piedmont, Italy.
The food menu is equally impressive, with the classic New Yorker Pie at $24 letting the crust be the suit and the pecorino be the wristwatch. The restaurant also features their exclusive "Pirolo" Pilsner, a collaboration with J Wakefield brewery.
"We wanted to fill a gap in Miami's pizza scene," Pirolo explained. "Something approachable and low-key, but still delivering serious food and top-notch wines. Perfect for a chill lunch, family-friendly dinner, or a lively evening with friends."
Bar Bucce is open Thursday through Monday, 11am to 11pm. The James Beard Award winners will be announced at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on June 15.
