The James Beard Foundation has announced its 2026 semifinalists, and Los Angeles is well represented across multiple categories—a testament to the city's thriving and diverse culinary scene.
Among the highlights, eight chefs earned nominations for Best Chef: California, including Brian Dunsmoor of Dunsmoor, Sarah Hymanson and Sara Kramer of Kismet, Andrew and Michelle Muñoz of Moo's Craft Barbecue, Charles Namba of Camélia, and Kwang Uh of Baroo—all representing Los Angeles.
In the Outstanding Chef category, Gilberto Cetina of Holbox and the legendary Niki Nakayama of n/naka received nominations. Nakayama's kaiseki restaurant has long been considered one of the finest dining experiences in America.

Emerging Chef nominations went to Fátima Juárez of Komal and José Olmedo Carles Rojas of Si! Mon in Venice. Ki and RVR (Venice) both earned Best New Restaurant nods.
Notably, Gusto Bread in Long Beach was recognized as Outstanding Bakery, while Hannah Ziskin of Quarter Sheets earned an Outstanding Pastry Chef nomination. Providence and Ammatoli (Long Beach) received Outstanding Hospitality recognition.
In beverage categories, Kato earned an Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program nomination, Daisy was recognized as Best New Bar, and Jason Lee of Darling received an Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service nod.
The nominations follow last year's success when Kato's Jon Yao took home the Best Chef: California award. Nominees will be announced March 31, 2026, with winners revealed at the June 15 ceremony in Chicago.
Often called "the Oscars of food," the James Beard Awards represent the highest recognition in American hospitality.
