A story about Chromatic Walls Collective

A collective of seven muralists has transformed a long-abandoned warehouse on Walnut Street into Denver's newest interactive art destination. Chromatic Walls, which opened to the public last Friday, features over 15,000 square feet of immersive, floor-to-ceiling murals that visitors can walk through and interact with using augmented reality on their phones.

Lead artist Tanya Redhawk, a Denver native and member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe, said the project was years in the making. "RiNo has always been a place where artists push boundaries," she said. "We wanted to create something that honors the district's creative spirit while making art accessible to people who might never set foot in a traditional gallery."

Each room in the warehouse tells a different story — from Colorado's mountain ecosystems rendered in neon geometric patterns to a room celebrating Denver's diverse food scene through larger-than-life portraits of local chefs and farmers. Visitors can use a free app to unlock animations, music, and hidden stories layered over the physical murals.

The space also includes a working studio where visitors can watch artists create in real time, and a youth workshop area where the collective hosts free weekend classes for kids aged 8 to 17. The collective received a grant from the Denver Arts & Venues Cultural Partner Program to subsidize the workshops through the end of 2026.

Since opening, Chromatic Walls has drawn steady crowds, with weekend time slots selling out within hours. The collective plans to rotate installations quarterly, inviting guest artists from across the country to contribute new rooms.

Tickets are available at chromaticwalls.com. General admission is $15, with free entry for Denver Public Schools students. The space is open Wednesday through Sunday.
